Mawnan School Foundation Governor vacancies

Mawnan CoE VA School is seeking two Foundation Governors volunteers to join our governing body and help the children in our community continue to thrive.

Governors are responsible for overseeing the strategic direction, ethos and vision of our school. As a board we:

- hold the school's leaders to account by asking questions and discussing what's best for children attending the school

- ensure the curriculum is broad and ambitious

- help with staff recruitment and approve school policies

- oversee the school’s financial performance, making sure the budget is well spent.

We are 'critical friends' to the school's leadership, making sure high quality education and experiences are accessible for all pupils.

This is a particularly rewarding role at a school like Mawnan, which has gone from strength to strength in recent years. Our latest Ofsted inspection praised the school's pursuit of excellence, the curriculum and quality of teaching, as well as the exceptional behaviour of our pupils.

Inspectors from the Church of England recently found Mawnan to be an inclusive community where children's self-esteem flourishes, thanks to a culture of high aspirations and a love of learning.

Our most recent academic results show we are one of the highest performing schools in the whole of Cornwall for reading and maths, with children achieving well above national averages.

Following the retirement of two long-standing board members, we now have two Foundation governor vacancies. Expertise in finance, law, premises management or HR is particularly welcome.

The roles are open to anyone with a connection to Mawnan, our parish church or our school community. Please note these are not open to parents - we have two elected parent governors already serving on the board.
