After-school Childcare - Wraparound

At Mawnan CE VA Primary School, we are committed to providing families with flexible, affordable and high-quality wraparound childcare. As a small, successful and ambitious primary school, we aim to provide every child with a safe, nurturing and enriching environment.

Our wraparound childcare is an extension of the school day and operates in line with the school’s vision, values, policies and high expectations for behaviour.

Our Wraparound Provision

From September 2026, wraparound childcare will be available during term time:

  • Monday to Thursday

  • 3:15pm–5:30pm

  • Excluding INSET days

  • Up to 30 places each day

The provision is based on the school site, enabling children to enjoy our facilities and grounds. A range of relaxing, creative and engaging activities will be available.

Wraparound childcare will operate alongside our programme of after-school enrichment clubs, giving families greater flexibility and peace of mind. Parents and carers may book individual sessions or make regular bookings, subject to availability.

We are committed to ensuring that our provision remains affordable and financially sustainable. Session times and charges will be reviewed regularly to ensure that they continue to meet the needs of our school community.

Childcare Accounts and Voucher Payments

Families using Tax-Free Childcare, childcare vouchers or the Wraparound Childcare Scheme for Service families should select the appropriate payment option when booking.

Payment must be requested from the childcare account or voucher provider at the time of booking. Please be aware that some providers may take up to five working days to transfer funds.

Please include your ParentPay reference number with the payment so that it can be credited to the correct child’s Breakfast or Wraparound Club account.

Help with Childcare Costs

Some families may be eligible for government support with the cost of wraparound childcare.

Tax-Free Childcare

Through Tax-Free Childcare, eligible families can set up an online childcare account. For every £8 paid into the account, the government adds £2. Families can receive up to £2,000 per child each year, or up to £4,000 for a child with a disability.

Tax-Free Childcare can be used to pay for approved childcare, including breakfast clubs, after-school clubs and wraparound provision.

Wraparound Childcare for Service Families

The Ministry of Defence Wraparound Childcare Scheme helps eligible Armed Forces families with the cost of before- and after-school childcare during term time.

Eligible Service personnel can claim funding for up to 20 hours of wraparound childcare each week for children aged 4–11. Different age limits may apply to children receiving certain disability benefits.

Families using a UK childcare provider must have an active Tax-Free Childcare account for each child included in a claim.

Families are responsible for checking their eligibility and completing the relevant application or registration process.

Snacks

Children will be offered a selection of healthy snacks at 3:15pm. A further snack will be available at 4:15pm for children arriving from an after-school enrichment club.

This gives children an opportunity to refuel and recharge before enjoying the remainder of their session. Please ensure that all allergies, dietary requirements and medical needs are included on your child’s registration form.

Collection and Safety

The safety and well-being of our children are of the utmost importance.

The designated collection times are:

  • 4:15pm for the short session; and

  • 5:30pm for the full session.

Parents and carers should wait outside the main reception area. A member of the wraparound team will bring children to reception, where they must be signed out before leaving.

Children will only be released to an adult named on their collection permission form. If somebody else will be collecting your child, the school must receive permission from a parent or carer in advance.

Late Collection

Children must be collected promptly at the end of their booked session.

If a child booked into the short session is not collected at 4:15pm, the booking will be extended to the full session and the additional £6 will be charged.

Wraparound childcare closes at 5:30pm. There is no provision beyond this time. If a child is collected after 5:30pm, a £30 late-collection charge will be applied to cover the additional staffing costs.

Parents and carers who are unexpectedly delayed should contact the school as soon as possible.
