Courageous Advocacy

At Mawnan School, we encourage and support our children to become courageous advocates—people who speak up for others, challenge unfairness and take thoughtful action on issues that matter to them. This might mean caring for our environment, supporting a global cause or making a difference to someone closer to home.

Inspired by the teachings of Jesus and our Christian vision, “Using our God-given gifts to let our light shine,” we help children recognise that their voices and actions can bring positive change. We encourage them to ask questions, listen to different perspectives and consider how they can respond with compassion and courage.

We recognise that everyone faces challenges and sometimes needs support. By giving one another time, care and encouragement, we nurture a community where people feel valued and have space to grow.

Through these experiences, children develop resilience, teamwork, courage and independence. They deepen their understanding of the wider world and discover that, whatever their age, they can help make it a fairer, kinder place—enabling themselves and others to flourish.

Our Christian values of compassion and respect, alongside the British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs, guide how we care for others and respond to the world around us.

We give children opportunities to discuss current issues, consider different perspectives and challenge injustice. We recognise that everyone can face difficulties and may need kindness, practical support and encouragement. Through these conversations and experiences, we help children become courageous advocates, discovering how their voices and actions can make a difference.

Our school community supports charities and causes locally, nationally and globally. Alongside our regular commitments, we make room to respond to emerging needs and causes that are meaningful to our children and families. We recognise that giving can take many forms, including sharing our time, using our talents, raising awareness and fundraising.

Our School Navigators play an important role in choosing, planning and organising charitable activities, with support from staff. Navigators welcome ideas from across the school and help children understand the purpose and impact of their support. All contributions are voluntary, and every child can take part without an expectation to donate.
