The Big Write

‘The BIG Write’ is here!

To outline how Thursday’s BIG Write works:

The children will arrive in school and start their lesson with some fun and lively VCOP based warm up activities and some shared writing, modelled by their teacher. After this they will be given some time to plan their writing followed by a quick ‘brain break’. When they return from their break they will be met with the sound of classical music to ‘set the mood for writing’ and will start the BIG Write!

Helping at Home

The children will be returning home with their first ‘Talking Homework’ tonight. They have been working hard at using VCOP in their writing and playing lots of fun, quick and exciting games in class since returning from the Easter holidays. The children know all about the VCOP Superheroes and love to add exciting examples of their writing to literacy displays in class.

Talking homework will be sent home on a Wednesday night, but just in case it gets mislaid on its journey home then it will be online for you to check

23/2/12                                                                                                                                Class 1 Talking Homework                                            The Very Hungry Caterpillar

The Hungry Caterpillar story is probably very familiar to your child. Please ask them to retell it to you in the terms of “First…….”, “Second…..”, “Then……”, “After that” and “finally”. This is supporting our new target to use time connective openers:

I can say (and write) sentences starting with words like:  First… Then… Next… After that… Finally…

Class 2

We are starting to talk about Florence Nightingale so it would good if the children could talk about what they have found out so far and their own experiences of hospitals, doctors and nurses etc.

Class 3

Please ask you child to talk about their targets- sentence openers – and see if they can make good sentences that begin with some of the openers they are trying to use.

Class 4

This week we are going to be writing a recount of our trip to Tremough University. Can you tell your parents about our trip. You might find these questions helpful.

  1. 1.  What did you think when you arrived at Tremough?
  2. 2.  How did you feel and why.
  3. 3.  Why did we go?
  4. 4.  What did we do?
  5. 5.  What did you make?
  6. 6.  What did you think of what you made, the day etc.
